Restnrileks - Rattan Crafts and My World: RestNrilekS On Kompleks Kraf Kuala Lumpur and Rattan Sketches

Now, it is time for another Blog4FT post again. : ) Yes, i know, incik RestNrilekS is somewhat addicted. Mind you, this is an entry filled with many pics which i believe defies part of blogging rules. Aha! Sorry, if you find loading time is a bit annoying.

My choice of Blog4FT entry is Kompleks Kraf Kuala Lumpur. Aha!

Kompleks Kraf Kuala Lumpur or sometimes known as Kompleks Budaya Kraf is located quite near to Jalan Bukit Bintang (yes the glits and glamour of KL famous triangle), Well, situated at Jalan Conlay to be exact. A couple of walk from KKKL is the notable Restoran Seri Melayu (to Kaki Makan), Prince Hotel n Residence and the famous Pavilion. Its objectives are to create awareness and promote Malaysia crafts. Surprisingly, though it is quite famous among tourists and travel agencies, none can be said for the locals.

It hosts craft shops on various products and textiles - ranging from wood works to the meticulous works of Tenun, a craft Museum which has its own thematic exhibition, and "Perkampungan Pelukis", famously known among visual artists. These are artists with great skills depicting thru their awesome works. You can simply buy or better yet, commission the artist. If budget is a bit tight, maybe you can get yourself some mini2 paintings for your desktop decor. Price is somehow based on the value of artistic works.

There are something for everyone to enjoy here.here. Guess What! Kompleks Kraf Kuala Lumpur does offer craft interactive. Children will surely love these. Whoaho!! They can experience in making batik or/and ceramic (fees are however charged by Craft artists and not by Kraftangan Malaysia). I am sure they can brag about em later to grandpa and grandma, Aha! (coz i know some adults brag about it too - Lol!!)

Want to explore on more details, call the Kompleks Kraf for a guided tour. You can ask the front desk too asking for a special activity if you like. Some schools do craft activities as part of their learning experiences.

Best to visit Kompleks Kraf Kuala Lumpur is when it runs its own special events and promotions. Its main event is the Hari Kraf Kebangsaan which held annually on February or March. A must event to visit i say. Upcoming Promotion is the International Muslim Fashion Festival - Textile Crafts starting from 27 October - 1 November.

Speaking of Rattan, yes i am aware that RestNrileks is slacking in posting infos related to Rattan, which is the main reason for RnR's existence. So, i am doing a double whammy here posting a bit of my Rattan works. Hopefully, these pixs will be sort of an appetizer for future rattan posts :)

A quick brainstorming sketch of rattan works during my free time.

An idea for manipulating form using the common rattan "stake and strand" method. I ll show the works in future post.

Another idea done when i am bored or during those long hours of meeting. The coloured sketch is actually design sketch done by one of my students. It is on its way in the making. Hopefully by December, i can post it here. :D Aha!
