Since it has been a while i post anything about rattan crafts, so i am updating RestnRileks with such entry. Frankly, i am a bit hesitated to talk about rattan crafts lately. All thanks to office politic issues that we (IKN) are facing now. Sigh.. nevertheless, i will not let all of you PHD people determine my mood of the day, or tomorrow, or next week, in fact for the rest of my working time in Kraftangan Malaysia. Whoaho!!

Anyway, Launching of Rattan Craft Books was surprisingly pleasant, though it was only a soft launch. Soft launch was released since there were 3 more unfinished books, namely Batik, Seramik and Tenun. Hopefully, when completed, the series will serve as references to people who like to know more about these 7 crafts. These are basic books, emphasizing more on motifs and techniques instead of Craft Philosophies.

I am glad it is over now with the rattan book. I am now working on a second book, which probably will take another 1.5 years time to finish (yer laa kan nak pergi meeting, buat hal admin, ngajar lagi, jaga jurusan, adoiii macam tak cukup nafas, plus nak update blog lagi tuuu). It will be about ideas on rattan crafts, intended to be used by students as a reference book on idea development. Hopefully, all these ideas will boost the rattan crafts industry in Malaysia. I ve got to admit, creativity in rattan crafts in somewhat stagnant in Malaysia. Like the first book, it will be a collarobative work. 5 ideas (the rest are kept safe n sound.. lol!!) below are done by my ex-students who are now working as Rattan Staff Projects.

Harry Potter and Half Blood Prince

Harry Potter.. Tereng teng..terenggg teng.. teng tenggggg..

Oh Gosh!! I had hopes prior to watching the 6th installment. Now, i just feel it should be titled Harry Potter and Half Plot Prince. Ho Ho Ho. Dont get me wrong. I still Love Harry Potter but the 6th movie, just aint right. Feel empty after watching em. This may sounds harsh, but personally, HBP is the worst of all.

No doubt, the movie was visually stunning with its CGI and cinematographic style, but it failed on the story plot department.

It failed to bring the tense, as depicted in JKR's book, in the world of wizarding community and the muggle. Opening scene between the muggle Prime Minister and new Minister for Magic Rufus Scrimgeour was left out (which i think is vital in telling how tense and worried the wizarding world was), and was replaced by showing those dark clouds flying on the streets of London.

Instead of building Voldemort's plot and the quest of finding Horcrux, more were given on romance and relationship of the Hogwarts students. The plotlines were barely developed. Great dramatic plots didnt make it into the film.

Two major things which i didn't like were, the scene after Dumbledore was killed and the ending itself. The Chaotic panic and fighting scenes on Hogwarts were not included. After killing Dumbledore, they simply walked away and suddenly, puff, they were in the forest running away? Those fighting scenes would add some climatic feelings to the movie.

No funeral for Dumbledore? Oh come on!! Dumbledore was the greatest wizard of all (a major character in Harry Potter). His after-death scene was simply insulting to this great wizard (to me at least). JKR depicted in such awesome and beautiful ways, where all the wizarding community gave their last respects to Dumbledore. Character from Goblets of Fire made their appearance too.

I thought Harry Potter was supposed to be petrified by Dumbledore prior to his death? And since when wizards could fly? I thought only Voldemort could and the rest could just apperate? No biggie though on wizards could fly.

Oh! Gosh..

Basically, the movie was interesting in the beginning. You kept asking what would happen.. and.. and... and.. and.. errkk.. that was it?

I understand that it was hardd to make HBP, since a 600-page novel had to end up as a 200-page script. But ROTK managed to bring the climatic and intertwined plots as intended. And yeah, ROTK was a very descriptive story indeed.

Harry Potter fans might get a bit upset.

Those who didnt read HBP, might question couple of things. I had to explain to my brother, since he couldn't find the connecting plots.

I hope the finale (Deathly Hallows - which will be made into 2 movies) would not be dissapointing.

Owh..Could somebody get back Alfonso Cuoron please? Lol!!!

I ve been posting less stuffs about rattan crafts since the beginning of this year. So, i think i ll do a quick update on them. New Semester is on, new students are in, and the rest of IKN students will be starting back their classes this Monday. Anyway, i just post few pics of my students last semester works and the condition of our workshop during the hassle-"messle" period. There are more rattan crafts that i would like to show, but I ll leave them for future posts. IN the meantime, enjoy these pics. :)

Oh gosh!! now i am making this into one lengthy post. One nomination per blog?, this is really hard since i love all my readers and without readers, RestnRileks is just an empty lifeless online page. But after much consideration, I am nominating (drum rolls please.... drummmmm!! drum!! drumm!!) this one kreatif blogger known as Emila Yusof of Emila's Illustrated Blog ( a full time blogger and a mother). Worst Comment Ever on RestnRileks

I ll get into "worst comment ever" later.. haha.
(This is actually a new version of the previous "Restnrileks is crippled" Lol!!)


I ve been longing to post some items received from my online blogging friends. Alas, the time was never right. Since restnrileks.blogspot.com has a new domain name (whoaho!!), today seems the best day to post pixs about em. First is a handcarved rubber stamp awesomely crafted by Manggo, the owner of kulitmanggis.com, which was previously known as mangosteenskin.blogspot.com I was in awe when she first mentioned about my customised work in her post. Check it out here. Do check her other works on handcarved rubber stamps. Awesome!! Second is a set of asid-free colour stamp pad which i bought from debbie a year ago. Debbie is the owner of ramblings of the phat and crafty-heart. In fact, she even has an online store, from which i bought my set of stamp pad. These two items are just nice for me to start rebranding restnrileks.com Whoaho!!

Speaking of restnrileks (not like any of you havent noticed), i have moved from .blogspot to .com. Feels good? i would be lying if i say i am not. Yee haa!! However, my earlier processes of forwarding to dot.com werent smooth as i had hoped for. Buying a new domain name, importing back all comments, and a crippled commenting box proved to be a challenge . Phew!! Even, as i speak, i still couldnt retrieve all comments for my last 3 posts. Sigh.. I guess i just have to do with its current state. Aha.ha!

Changing to dotcom means i ll have to ditch my PR3, back to zero, but hey, i am okay with that. Moreover, I am not into monetizing my blog. But, i am happy that restnrileks has reached to a certain level (well, nothing in comparison to the likes of John Chow or Kenny Sia...aha.ha.ha) At least, restnrileks is on 1st, 2nd and 3rd page of google and yahoo search engines on "rattan crafts and rattan craft" keywords competing on hundreds thousands and millions of sites respectively. WHoaho!! Yeah, i know i should concentrate on more keywords since ranks will bounce up and down. At this moment, i am just happy for restnrileks.

Rank 4th(1st Page) for "rattan crafts" on yahoo search engine among 2 million sites. Whoaho!!


Rank 5th(1st page) for "rattan craft" without the "s" on yahoo search engine among 4 million sites. Whoaho!!

And restnrileks too is on 1st page of yahoo and google search engines on few targeted Rattan BM keywords.


Hopefully, restnrileks.com will have its own shares in the future.

Ohh in blogsphere! restnrileks has not been spared from receiving a nasty comment . And i know few of my online friends who have received one/s as well. Earlier, i was thinking of buying food instead of cooking. Moreover, there will be a Pasar Malam tonite. But, then again, we already bought food for breakfast, and since i am in a mission to save money, nak tak nak kena laa jugak masak. We started seriously cooking on March this year. Even get ourselves A Cornell Induction Cooker. Lol!. Frankly, though a bit tired (since you are now cooking everyday), the money saved is awesome and serves as a motivation. Previously, I would be spending like rm18 per day - rm4, breakfast, rm7 for lunch and dinner (that is a whopping rm540 on food.. yeah i know, to some rm540 maybe aint that much). Now , i am only spending rm150 to buy grocerries plus another rm240 for my daily budget. That rm150 allows me to have a proper home-meal food twice, like rendang, kurma, kari..awesome! whoaho. Plus, i save another rm150. So, any quick recipes to share with me? I love those meals that you can cook under 30-minutes, and love to try your recipes too.
